Update for March 14, 2008

This week Debco Construction began work on the rock fall protection system located approximately ½ mile upriver from Island Bar.  In this area, holes are drilled through the silty-sand colluvium and into rock.  One and one-eighth inch (1 ⅛ “) diameter reinforced steel bars are then installed and pressure-grouted to provide a mechanical connection between the rock and the nail.  Once the grout has cured, a wire mesh is placed over the slope and connected to the nails.  The purpose of the mesh is to maintain stability of the new cut slope.
