Update for January 18, 2008

The first week of daily closures is behind us and that’s probably a good thing.  On Monday and Tuesday, the traveling public unexpectedly encountered delays and pilot cars during the ‘road open’ period.  By Wednesday, Debco had things in order and upriver residents and workers arrived at their destinations on time.  Just to clarify, before 8 a.m. and between 6 and 8 p.m., the road is intended to be open with no delays.  Between 1 and 2 p.m. (Monday and Wednesday), we do not intend for any delay.  Depending on the road conditions and construction activities, Debco may escort vehicles through as they arrive at either end of the project, or vehicles may travel through on their own.

Debco’s official alternate retaining wall proposal is in FHWA’s hands for review, and that review process is a priority for our office.

I still have to coordinate with upriver residents regarding the summer closure schedule, and hope to have something together in the next week or so.

As you drive through the project, please remember that road conditions change daily.  What you’ve seen for the last 10 years might not be there tomorrow.  Take nothing for granted – we want everyone to make it home or to work safely every day.

If you have any comments or thoughts, please let us know.  The e-mail address shown below is checked at least daily and your feedback is important to us.  FHWA and Debco sincerely want this project to work for everyone.
